We are so proud to have been awarded our second consecutive John Platter 5 star award. This time last year, winemaker Matthew Copeland accepted the award for the 2012 Erica, our flagship red. This year, for the 2015 Babiana, our flagship white blend.

Based on Chenin Blanc from a single block planted in 1986, and blended with Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Chardonnay - the Babiana is named for a rare species of fynbos that is endemic to the Paardeberg. The stellar 2015 is described as "luminous" by Platter taster, Meryl Weaver. (Cellar door price is R170.00 inc vat)

We're also very pleased that the 2015 Vondeling Petit Rouge Merlot was acknowledged as a "Hidden Gem" for the exceptional quality it offers for the price. (Cellar door price is R54.00 inc vat)

Also unveiled in the 2017 Platter's SA Wine Guide are our two new additions to the portfolio, namely, the Vondeling Bowwood Pinotage 2014 and the Vondeling Philosophie 2014. Both achieved four and a half star ratings!

Bowwood Pinotage is a collaboration between Vondeling, and Bruce Jack of The Drift Wines. After identifying a particularly special block of Pinotage fruit on Vondeling, we set out to produce a wine to rival the best Pinotage South Africa has to offer. The result is a full flavoured, modern wine in an international style. This wine should be aged at least three years to glimpse its potential. The 2014 sells for R295.00 per bottle, but be quick, as only a small quantity was produced.
Vondeling Philosophie 2014 is still to be released.

We’re very proud to have won two gold medals in the 2016 Michelangelo Awards; one for our flagship Shiraz based blend, Erica, and one for our secret weapon, Cabernet Sauvignon.

There were 1829 entries into this year’s awards, of which only 271 were awarded gold.

Says Michelangelo CEO, Lorraine Immelman, “By employing internationally respected and highly experienced judges and abiding by the highest international technical standards, the Michelangelo has become a global player on the world map of wine and spirit awards. This year showed a 9% growth taking us to a new record number of 1829 entries, submitted by 296 local and 42 foreign producers. This makes Michelangelo the biggest wine competition in South Africa – the culmination of 20 years of very hard work!

A huge congratulations to our winemaker, Matthew Copeland, and the rest of the winemaking team.
