The aim of this venture is to raise funds to support WESSA's continuing conservation and environmental education work. Wine‐lovers will now have the opportunity to return nature's generosity and become partners with WESSA in caring too. Profits from sales of the wines will go directly to the organisation and help WESSA to work for the continued conservation of our natural heritage and a sustainable lifestyle on a healthy planet.

Vondeling 2012 Fynbos Survey

Following a fire on the Paardeberg in January 2011, a botanical survey was commissioned by the Paardeberg Sustainability Initiative (PSI) in collaboration with Vondeling Wines to record the plant species growing on the mountain. The post fire fynbos regrowth was documented for 18 months through plant collections and photographic records.

The 3rd annual China Wine Awards took place earlier this year and Vondeling is proud to announce the the 2011 Baldrick Shiraz was awarded a gold medal.

Around 100 judges from the within the Chinese trade and drinks business judged over 1000 entries from 35 different countries. New world wines dominated the awards with Australian wines picking up the majority of the gold medals. Portugal managed the second highest number of golds with 45, follwed by South Africa and Italy with 37 each.

Cape Leopard Spotted at Vondeling

There has been great excitement at Vondeling, where a recently installed camera trap confirmed suspicions that a Cape Leopard has increased his territory to include the Paardeberg mountain.

The leopard alerted us to his presence over two years ago, with paw-prints and faecal scat, demonstrating a diet including bones and porcupine quills! A roofing team working on an elevated house, claimed to have seen him some months ago. Then, typical territorial scratch marks were discovered on a tree by the team currently completing a post-fire Botanical Survey Project, commissioned by the Paardeberg Sustainability Initiative (PSI) and Vondeling Wines.
