Greetings Vondelingers
We are still here after the Storm on Sunday, but it was quite a rough one. Trees were blown over and floods everywhere, but gladly surprisingly little damage. We have a chapel service every Wednesday morning at 7.00 a.m. for 15 minutes and we gave thanks.
The big news this month is that our Tasting Room is moving to our new farm next door to Landskroon at Vrymansfontein . It’s just up the road from Spice Route and Fairview and you may have seen the almond orchards we have planted there when driving towards Klapmuts on the R44 or towards Wellington having left the N1. Of course, it’s sad to be closing the Tasting Room here at Vondeling, but extremely exciting to be opening the new one at Vrymansfontein. We will send all details about this before the end of October and will close the wine-tasting activities here on 9th November and open up at the new venue on 10th November. Watch this space!
It has been extremely difficult to get into the vineyards with the tractors as it’s so wet. This has happened more than once!
On the wine front, we were delighted to be awarded Double Golds at the Michael Angelo International Wine Awards recently for our Sauvignon Blanc 2023, Barrel Selection Chardonnay 2022, and Bowwood Pinotage 2020. Also Double Gold from Gilbert & Gallard for the Bowwood Chenin Blanc 2022
I have to mention that we have all been super excited about the Rugby World Cup, especially last Saturday which was a real nail-biter! Below is our Farm Manager Basson and winemaker Matt with his boys Henry and Josh, all suitably attired.
Finally, we had a beautiful rainbow just after the latest storm the other day.
Finally, a couple of pics to show that Spring has truly arrived. Harry the Hair in the old Sauvignon Blanc block and my new pup Tululah Buttercup by a flowering Babiana Noctiflora (from whence we get the name for our Premium White Blend), Babiana
Please see this month’s wine specials below and do join our wine club if you haven’t already. It’s SO worth it.
Until next month, take care
