Greetings Vondelingers
The last few weeks have brought some good rains and recorded rainfall on Vondeling was 100mm, which is the ten-year average here for May, so that is encouraging. Our wettest months are traditionally July and August, so fingers crossed.
We are currently installing solar panels at Vondeling, which should cut our electricity cost by more than half. It’s been a difficult decision as one never really knows if, by this time next year, a more effective panel may have been invented with installation costs of half the price! (Computers, TV’s and mobile phones jump to mind that have become better and cheaper).
On Saturday we are having a wine sale of various end bins and there will be some fantastic bargains of older Shiraz vintages from our wine library. Last year the best deals were all sold out by 10.30 am, so try and get to the tasting room here on Vondeling early. We open at 9.00 am and delicious snacks and coffee’s will be on sale as well as the wines, of course.
Then, this evening, 14 June, we are having a delicious Shiraz and Venison dinner hosted by our immensely knowledgeable and entertaining Head Winemaker, Matthew Copeland. There are still a few more places available, so let Mariaan know if you’d like to join us for dinner. 021 869 8339 / [email protected]
WINE OF THE MONTH
Our wine of the month this month is Baldrick Shiraz. We have a great deal on the Baldrick this month – a great gift for dad this Father’s Day! When you order 6 bottles of Baldrick you’ll receive a Vondeling – branded wine opener free.
You can order here >> http://www.vondelingwines.co.za/wine/buy-our-wine.
Finally, we are very sorry to be losing our amazing Director of Sales & Marketing, Jane Ferreira-Eedes. Jane’s parents, Naas and Jenny, were neighbours of mine in Wellington on my first farm I had here from 1990, so I have known Jane since her school girl days. She has been with us for seven and a half years and has grown sales domestically to a phenomenal level and is largely responsible for getting Vondeling wines “out there” and on the map in South Africa. A new challenge awaits her but she will be sorely missed. She leaves with our gratitude and our heartfelt thanks.
Here’s to a great soccer world cup!
All the best
Julian
