We are so proud to have been awarded our second consecutive John Platter 5 star award. This time last year, winemaker Matthew Copeland accepted the award for the 2012 Erica, our flagship red. This year, for the 2015 Babiana, our flagship white blend.
Based on Chenin Blanc from a single block planted in 1986, and blended with Grenache Blanc, Viognier and Chardonnay – the Babiana is named for a rare species of fynbos that is endemic to the Paardeberg. The stellar 2015 is described as “luminous” by Platter taster, Meryl Weaver. (Cellar door price is R170.00 inc vat)
We’re also very pleased that the 2015 Vondeling Petit Rouge Merlot was acknowledged as a “Hidden Gem” for the exceptional quality it offers for the price. (Cellar door price is R54.00 inc vat)
Also unveiled in the 2017 Platter’s SA Wine Guide are our two new additions to the portfolio, namely, the Vondeling Bowwood Pinotage 2014 and the Vondeling Philosophie 2014. Both achieved four and a half star ratings!
Bowwood Pinotage is a collaboration between Vondeling, and Bruce Jack of The Drift Wines. After identifying a particularly special block of Pinotage fruit on Vondeling, we set out to produce a wine to rival the best Pinotage South Africa has to offer. The result is a full flavoured, modern wine in an international style. This wine should be aged at least three years to glimpse its potential. The 2014 sells for R295.00 per bottle, but be quick, as only a small quantity was produced.
Vondeling Philosophie 2014 is still to be released.
